In our Senior Program Leader, Support Position, you will be on a rotating On-Call schedule as well as providing Leader Coverage in W.E.S.O.A.R! Programs and/or Adventurers Trips.  You will first be responsible for covering program staff to ensure safe ratios and supporting the delivery of safe and inclusive social, recreation, and development opportunities in the community. Second, you will also be responsible for taking calls to support Senior Leaders,  Junior Leaders & Volunteers during the Program Hours.  This position reports to the Program Coordinator, Adult Programs.

Our W.E.S.O.A.R! (Weekend, Evening, Social Opportunities, Activities and Recreation) Programs offer a variety of different activities including, but not limited to, movies, bowling, swimming, and music in a variety of locations and quadrants in the city of Calgary.

Adventurers Trips are for participants who are looking for fun and engaging one-off experiences. There are trips for everyone! There are Adventures for Youth and Adults, and occasionally we combine these trips.  Trips run between 1 - 4 days.
Job Duties & Responsibilities 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Know and adhere to the policies and procedures of Between Friends and be able to provide that knowledge as necessary to Program staff
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants’ personal information
  • Attend all training opportunities and staff meetings as set by the Program Coordinator
  • May be responsible for the safety and well-being of 8-12 participants in community programming; providing engaging inclusive programming planned to the highest standard of quality and safety
  • Provide accessible programming and make adaptations to activities as required
  • Responsible for the medical safety of participants by administering necessary medication and completing the appropriate documentation, as per the policy of Between Friends. Training will be provided 
  • Supervise, support, and provide leadership to Senior Leaders, Junior Leaders, Volunteers and other program personnel
  • Deescalate situations while providing necessary leadership skills to support all personnel in emergencies
  • There will be a member of the office staff available for support when needed
  • Maintain open and effective communication with stakeholders of the agency
  • Updating the On-Call log book with all calls received, and updating appropriate information and time spent on the situation
  • Excellent communication and skills

Time Requirements
- Training will be offered in May, prior to the start of the Summer Season (June 2 - August 23, 2024)
  • Senior Program Leader, Support must commit to two, one-week rotations during Summer Season
  • This position pays a guaranteed 3 hours per week during On-Call rotation and additional wages for any on-call program phone calls or in-person attendance requirements while tracking in the Humi Time Tracking App
  • Program Leader coverage outside of on-call rotation is optional and at your availability and choosing, while tracking in the Humi Time Tracking App
  • Attend Leader Meetings held two times per session, dates to be determined, to keep current with any changes, updates or training
  • W.E.S.O.A.R! Programs run Sunday through Thursday evenings
  • Adventurers' Trips can run during the day, evening, or overnight during the week or on the weekends
  • Leaders must have their own personal cell phone and use this cell phone during program hours, as required
  • Your Personal Number will not be given to Program Leaders as the On-Call Phone will be forwarded to you during your weeks of On-Call Coverage

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must pass a Screening Process including a Backcheck search 
  • Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C 
  • Reliable transportation
  • Experience in managing crisis situations in a team setting
  • Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support - Training will be provided 
  • Ability to provide a calming, level-headed presence while providing phone and in-person support, during sometimes escalated leaders, volunteers or situations
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities is an asset
  • Previous experience implementing programming is an asset
  • Preference will be given to previous or existing staff of Between Friends

Compensation

$17.00 - $19.00 per month
