Location: Various locations throughout the City of Calgary
Duration: January 10, 2024 - April 30, 2024
Salary or Salary Range: $16:00 - $18.00

Job Overview
Our W.E.S.O.A.R! (Weekend, Evening, Social Opportunities, Activities and Recreation) programs offer a variety of different activities including, but not limited to, movies, bowling, swimming, music, etc. W.E.S.O.A.R! Programs are often quadrant specific, so you are sure to find a program that suits your interests in your area. 

In Senior Leader positions for our W.E.S.O.A.R! programs, you will be responsible for the delivery of safe and inclusive social, recreation, and development opportunities in the community. With the support of Junior Leaders & Volunteers, Senior Leaders will provide exceptional care and supervision of program participants to ensure an outstanding experience and satisfaction in their activities. This position reports to the Program Coordinator, Adults.
Job Duties & Responsibilities 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of Between Friends
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants’ personal information
  • Attend all training opportunities and staff meetings as set by the Program Coordinator
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of 8-12 participants in community programming; providing engaging inclusive programming planned to the highest standard of quality and safety
  • Provide accessible programming and make adaptations to activities as required
  • Responsible for the medical safety of participants by administering necessary medication and completing the appropriate documentation, as per the policy of Between Friends. Training will be provided 
  • Supervise, support, and provide leadership to Junior Leaders, Volunteers and other personnel in programs 
  • Deescalate situations while providing necessary leadership skills to support all personnel in emergencies
  • Respect and maintain the set program budgets throughout the session 
  • Maintain open and effective communication with stakeholders of the agency
  • Provide feedback on programs to ensure members best experience. This includes: new ideas, suggestions from participants, and completing an end-of-session program evaluation to the Program Coordinator, Adults
  • Responsible for budgets, receipts and contacting Program Coordinator, Adult if there is a deviation or more entry tickets or funds are required
  • Membership communication in regard to participant attendance
  • Caregiver communications
Time Requirements
  • Senior Leaders must commit to at least one full program session (January 10 - April 30, 2024)
  • One program has a weekly commitment of 3-5 hours (possibility of running multiple programs for successful candidates seeking more hours)
  • Attend Leader meetings (held 2 times a session on Monday evenings or Saturday mornings) 
  • Programs run Tuesday through Sunday
  • Leaders must have their own personal cell phone and use this cell phone during program hours, as required
Job Requirements
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must pass a Screening Process including a Backcheck search 
  • Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C 
  • Experience in managing crisis situations in a team setting
  • Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support (Training provided)
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities is an asset
  • Previous experience developing and implementing programming is an asset
