Job Overview
The Camp Experience Lead, plays a critical role in ensuring the success of Camp Bonaventure by fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for Campers, staff, and volunteers. This role focuses on understanding and meeting the diverse needs of our Campers, including sensory, emotional, behavioral and physical support, while also assisting in the planning and implementation of inclusive, engaging programming. The Camp Experience Lead works closely with families/caregivers and camp staff to create accessible programming, provide hands-on support and act as the primary point of contact for Camper support needs, behavioral guidance, and emergencies. This position reports directly to the Site Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Supports the Site Supervisor in maintaining quality staffing and appropriate Camper-to-Counsellor ratios. They provide coaching, guidance and feedback to staff, model person-centered leadership and deliver training on Between Friends policies, behaviour supports and inclusive practices. They conduct daily check-ins and safety meetings to ensure staff are prepared, informed and ready to deliver a high-quality camp experience
  • Camp Support & Behaviour Planning: Works directly with campers and families to assess individual needs and develop tailored support plans, including sensory, emotional, behavioural, and physical supports. They provide hands-on assistance as needed while promoting camper dignity and independence. They support staff in responding to behavioural challenges, implementing de-escalation strategies, and adjusting programming to ensure camper safety, engagement, and enjoyment.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Acts as the primary on-site contact for families, caregivers, and visitors, ensuring clear and timely communication. They collaborate with the Site Supervisor, Program Coordinator, and other staff to maintain program quality and build strong relationships with volunteers, subcontractors, and community partners.
  • Programming & Camper Engagement: Collaborates with the Site Supervisor and Counsellors to develop and deliver inclusive, age-appropriate programming. They assist directly with activities to ensure all campers can safely participate and foster a fun, engaging, and accessible environment that promotes belonging for all.
  • Operations & Logistics: Tracks staff schedules and attendance, procures and maintains program supplies, and ensures documentation and reporting meet organizational and regulatory requirements. They assist with post-camp wrap-up, oversee safe and accessible camp facilities, and support adherence to all safety regulations and organizational policies.

  • Easeful - You strive to create accessible and inclusive spaces that remove barriers to access. You have experience adapting activities, programming, to meet the needs of everyone. Previous experience developing and implementing programming is required. Access to your own vehicle during working hours.
  • Safe - You value creating and maintaining safe spaces to promote inclusion and fun! Must be over the age of 18. Must pass a Screening Process including a Backcheck search and an Intervention Record Check completed by Alberta Human Services. Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification, prior to the start date.

Overview of Working Hours:
  • Hours: This role is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours a week with some overtime as needed. This role requires flexibility in terms of working hours from the staff member to effectively support staff and program members.
  • Regular Schedule: Camp Senior Team will work an additional week as needed after Camp to work on wrap-up administration, ending August 28, 2026.
  • Mandatory Training: 
  • Camp Senior Team training begins May 4, 2026
  • Camp Wide Training occurs on June 18 - 26, 2026
  • Camp Dates: Camp Bonaventure runs from June 29, 2026 - August 21, 2026(excluding Statutory Holidays).

Working Locations:
  • May–June, this role will work remotely with some days at the Between Friends office, as needed. 
  • June–August, this role will work in-person at the assigned Camp Bonaventure Site.

Job Requirements:
  • Must be between the ages of 18-30 (due to funding requirements).
  • Must pass a Screening Process including a Backcheck search and an Intervention.
  • Record Check completed by the Government of Alberta.
  • Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification, prior to the start date.
  • Must be a Permanent Resident or Citizen of Canada (due to funding requirements),
  • Minimum one to two (1-2) years of experience in a leadership role.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
  • Current enrollment or completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Special Education, Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology,  or related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience in managing crisis situations in a team setting.
  • Able to adapt to changing circumstances, participant needs, and organizational goals.
  • Flexibility is especially important in non-profit work, where priorities and resources may shift.
  • Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support.
  • Experience in a supervisory role and/or summer camp work is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with people with disabilities is an asset.
  • Previous experience developing and implementing programming is an asset.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Passion for the mission of supporting persons with disabilities.

Compensation

$18.00 - $20.50 per hour
